Notes: This poster uses a very simple two colour colour-scheme, using blue and white. This is effective because it isn't too busy so you focus more so on whats being said rather than how it is being said. A very information based poster, which could be a downfall because people may react better to images and illustration over lots of body copy. The image within the text is quite effective, as well is the ribbon at the bottom works well too, where the activity advertised is actually shown, so people know what they are getting into, if they go.
Notes: The use of the image as the entirety of the poster create quite an effective response, as you feel as though you are in the sea with them, therefore you feel like you could be a sea creature and this could be happening to you. This is an effective technique in getting people to really relate and think about it. The addition of statistics is also effective in justifying whats being said and giving evidence to the viewer. These statistics could be infographics. However, all this being said, we think that we should create a poster that has a strong enough message visually that it doesn't need statistics on the poster as well to justify it.
Notes: The cartoon style is very childlike, this poster would relate to children well. The bright colours are also quite eye catching too, where the poster would stand out on the wall quite nicely. The message is very clear also, with minimal use of 'waffle' straight to the point message of beach day clean. Furthermore, having the cartoon of the hand and the rubbish bag is a clear message of what to expect at the event.
Notes: This poster reminds is very retro, 'surfing days' which can relate to surfers well. This sunset feel is quite romantic and relaxing. The use of silhouettes is very basic, but effective in its minimalism. It gives of this whole 'anyone can do it' manner, where they haven't created a specific type of surfer that can come. A use of contrast draws attention to the text up the top, where the white stands out effectively against the orange. The fact that they use the orange gradient look in the surfboard also create a nice 'tie-in' between the top and bottom of the page. The rubbish is very subtle and we are not sure if this is a good or bad thing. Good that it doesn't take over the aesthetic of the poster by being to dominant, and bad because its not could be overlooked easily and missed.
Notes: This poster is effective in the use of silhouettes, where you don't need the full details of the images to get what they are, the silhouette is enough. This then enabled the designer to implement colours and patterns into the silhouette shape to add interest or more detail by implementing textures or images that are relevant to the topic. We could use the water droplets, they work well. The gradient background is also quite effective aesthetically.
Notes: The use of the children's toys is effective in targeting both parents and children. This poster reminds me of the i-spy books for some reason which is quite effective because those books are all about finding things, which related to beach clean up and finding rubbish within the sand. This poster is very symmetrical, which is reflective of a very classical style. This centered look is quite boring though, where we would want to look to creating something more interesting in terms of composition.
Notes: The ripple effect of this poster is very reflective of its topic which is effective both visually and technically. The ripples reflect the fundamental design principle of movement and visual flow, where we get a sense of movement through the rippling movement in the type. This is really effective and we will definitely consider utilising this in our design concept. The link between what is being said and what you can see is also effective, where having a saying or pun about plastic is nice, and easy to remember. The simple palette, with contrasting colour of blue and yellow stands out well, something to consider.
Notes: This poster is predominantly, if not all, text accompanied with linework. For this poster it works effectivley and is straight to the point with the information. It has no image or metaphor that could potentially sidetrack or even confuse the reader which for an event like this, is good, because you want to be encouraging kids to be coming. The added line work keeps it interesting too where if it were just text it could be a little boring.
Notes: The use of two colours is effective in getting the point across in a obvious in your face way because there is nothing to distract the eye from the image, its plain and simple and out there. The way the crab is made out of rubbish is good, and how it isn't too obvious so its as though you have to look closer to realise. The metaphor of this is also very effective in itself, where it doesn't need much body copy to back it up.
Notes: This poster is effective in the use surrealism and making it look as though the boy is pulling up the sea to see what's under, like looking under the mat to find his toys but instead finding rubbish. The use of the little by also gives a certain innocence to the poster. It is thought provoking in this sense. The juxtaposition between the ocean and the rubbish dump creates an obvious message that the rubbish shouldn't be there.
Notes: This poster is almost mythical looking, as if in a fantasy, however instead its not quite a fantasy but rather a reality where rubbish is making its way into the ocean and is suffocating and trapping the animals. This image is right in your face and the message is very clear. It almost doesn't even need the statistic up the top, as the image is so impacting on its own. As for the type, it is very boring and looks just 'plonked' on there.
Notes: The homage of the jaws poster is effective, where it is a very well known movie and movie poster. Doing a take on this is an interesting take on the topic where the artist is giving reference to a horror, which is dramatic yet its whats need to be done to get people's attention and do something about it. The artist has used silhouettes of rubbish to make up the image of jaws, with contrasting colours of the colour wheel to be even more dramatic. The simplistic forms create quite a nice minimalist finish to the poster.
This advanced us in our project by enabling us to see whats already been done and gain an idea of how designers interpret and present this topic, overall enabling us to see if we are on the same page.
