Week One: Homework Task

In class, we did the Simpsons exercise, as stated on our other blog, where we took characters and created a 'pitch' brainstorm for the character, looking at ways we could pitch the clean up the beach event to them that would best appeal to the type of person they were.  This carried on into homework, where we had to pick two new characters and follow the same process.

This advanced us in our project by making us look into target audience and the need to structure or alter our projects essence to suit and appeal to different people. Furthermore it made us see the importance in determining our target audience to ensure that the way in which we advertise and design our campaign appeals to that target audience.

Following this task, we also had to create mood boards for our chosen topic, our being the beach clean up. For this we looked at specific themes surrounding our topic and applied these to the different mood boards. The themes we looked at were the positive effects, negative reality/pollution, put yourself in their shoes/human involvement, causes/plastics and kids/heroism. We kept the themes quite broad so that we had a lot to work with, as we are still very early in the project, that way we could crop into certain parts of the mood board later on in the process and create more of a refined theme.

Plastics/ Causes:

Put yourself in their shoes/human involvement:

Negative reality/pollution:

Positive effects:

Kids/Heroism:

This advanced us in our project by enabling us to get an visual idea of our topic, where we can then see patterns, line work, and colour come into play, so we can see what works visually and what kind of fades into the background.
